500 villages in Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Gir Somnath districts remained without electricity on Tuesday, eight days after cyclone Tauktae hit the Saurashtra coas.

Despite government-owned power companies working around the clock to restore damaged power infrastructure.

Only 63 villages were without power, according to Bhavnagar collector Gaurang Makwana. “Due to gusty winds brought by the cyclone in Bhavnagar, a total of 727 units or villages and wards in urban areas were blacked out. Ninety-one percent of them now have power,” he said.

As of Tuesday evening, 430 villages in Amreli district and 69 in neighbouring Bhavnagar district were without power, according to Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL), the state government-owned company that distributes power in Saurashtra, Kutch, and parts of north Gujarat.

Ninety-one percent of them now have power,” he said. Power to dehydration plants and cold storages in and around Mahuva has yet to be restored, according to Pankaj Valvai, sub-divisional magistrate of Mahuva in Bhavnagar.

On the eighth day after cyclone Tauktae made landfall near Una on May 17 evening, Gir Somnath district collector Ajay Prakash said that 151 villages in his district were also without power.
